Employee surveys help us listen, learn and improve
Listening to our team members is an important part of how we keep learning and improving at peopleCare, and how we continue to strengthen the experiences we create for residents, families and each other.
Throughout the year, feedback and ideas are shared in many ways, from everyday huddles and conversations to town halls, satisfaction surveys and more.
The Worklife Pulse Survey is another important opportunity to listen. Part of Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum program, it helps us better understand team member experience, recognize areas of strength and identify opportunities to improve.
Our latest survey showed some encouraging results. 728 team members participated, giving us a solid 81% response rate. Highlights included:
- 96% understand the expectations of their job
- 95% say residents and families participate in care decisions
- 95% say we treat residents with dignity and respect
- 93% say we use resident and family feedback to improve quality
The results reflect many of the things we continue to focus on across peopleCare, including investing in our leaders, learning and development, and supports for our teams so they can bring purpose, compassion and excellence to their work every day.
Of course, the real value comes from what we do with what we hear in our surveys. In this instance, results were shared across the organization and with each home, giving teams an opportunity to look more closely at what their own feedback was telling them. Since then, leaders and teams have identified priorities and developed action plans that are focusing their efforts.
While priorities vary from home to home, common areas of focus include strengthening visible leadership and coaching, creating more opportunities for real-time recognition and bringing teams together regularly to talk about what’s working and what could be better. Home leaders and team members are also staying connected and sharing progress along the way.
That process of listening, learning and taking action is at the heart of Accreditation.
peopleCare was one of the first long-term care operators in Ontario to undertake accreditation more than four decades ago, and the principles of continuous quality improvement have continued to guide our work. In 2023, we once again achieved Accreditation with Exemplary Standing, meeting all of Accreditation Canada’s rigorous requirements and standards. Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum program gives us a valuable framework for looking closely at how we’re doing, measuring our care and services against national standards for quality and safety, and identifying where we can continue to improve. Its continuous model is designed to keep that work happening throughout the entire Accreditation cycle.
With our next Accreditation survey coming in May 2027, we’ll continue building on our strengths, listening to residents, families and team members, and taking meaningful action where we see opportunities to do better.
Thank you to all our team members who shared their voice through the Worklife Pulse Survey, and in other ways throughout the year, and are helping us turn that feedback into positive change.
