Senior living trailblazer peopleCare earns exemplary accreditation status

December 20, 2023

peopleCare has reason to celebrate. Having exceeded 100% of the requirements, peopleCare proudly announces Accreditation Canada’s decision to renew our status as Accredited with Exemplary Standing—an extraordinary accomplishment and the highest award possible within Accreditation Canada’s rigorous Qmentum program.

As a visionary, family owned organization dedicated to changing the world of senior living, peopleCare is thrilled to have earned this noteworthy distinction, once again demonstrating an unwavering commitment to overall excellence.

Brent Gingerich, Chairman and CEO of peopleCare, says, “Quality is the bedrock of our drive to redefine and transform senior living, and we are very proud of this exceptional result. Accreditation Canada has provided an invaluable framework to support our organization’s focus on embedding excellence throughout our operations, care, and services.”

In its final report with the official decision, Accreditation Canada commends peopleCare for its steadfast commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care and services, and for going above and beyond Qmentum’s requirements. “Guided by a team of strategic leaders, peopleCare is a respected voice advancing long-term care. Quality improvement is a strength and the organization truly lives its values.”

The many strengths noted during the process include peopleCare’s significant investment in person-centred care and resident/family experience, high satisfaction among residents, families and staff, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) leadership, demonstrated ability to pioneer new ideas and blaze new trails in areas ranging from workforce engagement and recognition to virtual health and medication management.

peopleCare’s surveyors remarked positively on the organization’s commitment to social impact and also noted “Every suggestion from the last Accreditation Report was addressed – further evidence of how you strive for excellence in everything you do.”

According to peopleCare’s President, Megan Allen-Lamb, achieving this notably high standing – with 100% of Accreditation Canada’s exacting criteria exceeded – is thanks to a collective focus on quality and continuous improvement across the organization, and with peopleCare’s many community, sector and health system partners.

“Our exceptional team of accomplished and purpose-driven individuals has a steadfast dedication and focus to fulfill our commitments every single day,” says Allen-Lamb. “As we celebrate this milestone, we see it as an opportunity to collaboratively build on our strengths so that we continue to surpass the expectations of our residents, staff, families and partners.”

peopleCare was one of the first LTC operators in Ontario to undertake accreditation, more than four decades ago. With this most recent decision, we are now Accredited with Exemplary Standing through November 2027, and will continue to use the principles of accreditation and continuous quality improvement to guide our work.

Jenn Killing is peopleCare’s Vice President, Quality, Research and Strategic Partnerships. She explains why the comprehensive third-party Accreditation evaluation process is so important.

“peopleCare’s goal is to continuously raise the bar with respect to quality and improvement. Accreditation rigorously assesses our procedures, policies, communication and more against national standards. It’s instrumental in supporting us in offering person-centred care and exceptional experiences, enabled by leading edge practices and constant innovation.”

At the end of peopleCare’s week of onsite assessment across our Homes and Leadership Support Office in November, surveyors congratulated our engaged team for an outstanding survey, and left us with these uplifting and inspiring words.

“We like that your vision is bold and courageous. If anyone can change the world of senior living, peopleCare can!”
