August 9, 2024

August 2024

These past months have been full of exciting progress at peopleCare. We launched our new visionary strategy, celebrated our 2024 Values Award winners and continued to accelerate our LTC developments. Our wellness focus is earning recognition and we’re planning bigger and better for our annual charity golf tournament. We are energized and ready to keep pushing boundaries as we change the world of senior living!

Limitless sets path to possibilities

Our teams are bringing peopleCare’s visionary strategy Limitless to life in our homes with our residents, families, staff and partners. With a focus on Transforming Experiences, Designing Vibrant Communities, Innovating for Tomorrow and Impacting Beyond Ourselves, this strategy paves the way for an impactful future for our organization as we foster vitality, purpose and fulfillment, nurture bold ideas and achieve extraordinary outcomes in our communities and globally.

Thank you to the inspirational thought leaders, elder care pioneers, ethicists, leadership gurus and changemakers who engaged with us as we created this strategy. We look forward to continued collaboration to bring our ideas and innovations to life.

Building the future of LTC together

Meeting the diverse needs of our aging community members requires a collaborative approach. Municipalities, government, community and health system partners must work together to create a comprehensive range of care, services, housing and supports. peopleCare is committed to addressing these growing needs by partnering in our communities to build more LTC homes and introduce innovative, collaborative care models and intergenerational experiences.

Our LTC homes are a vital investment in the community (by the government and peopleCare) – providing essential care and housing for seniors, boosting the local economy and creating jobs. We’re doing our part to accelerate LTC developments in communities like Tillsonburg, Stratford and Peterborough (on the Trent University campus), on top of ongoing LTC builds in Tavistock, Delhi and Kitchener.

In fact, peopleCare is on track to increase our total number of LTC beds from 751 to 2,500 within four years. Later this month, we’ll be speaking at AMO in Ottawa and have the opportunity to personally thank our municipal partners for their support in fast-tracking planning approvals, helping us to meet our required Ministry of Long-Term Care’s capital redevelopment milestones.

Values Award winners go above and beyond

Congratulations to the 39 outstanding recipients of peopleCare’s 2024 Values Awards! These employees were nominated by their peers and residents for embodying our core Values and exceeding expectations each and every day. We received a record-breaking 160 nominations—a 31% increase from last year. Our winners, ranging from dietary staff to clinical leaders, have been with peopleCare for as little as a few months to over 40 years.

We’re incredibly proud of our team members for their commitment to quality, care, and compassion, which makes peopleCare truly special. As third-generation family owners Brent and Heather Gingerich expressed, “Our employees are the reason peopleCare stands out as a leader in senior living and is known for providing person-centred care.”

Sincere thanks to our partners ProResp, Arvan, Seasons Care, Medline and Dr. Tracy Hughes for your contributions on the evaluation committee.

Let’s go golfing!

As part of peopleCare’s commitment to having a positive impact on the world, we host an annual golf tournament as our signature fundraising event for MEDA. With over-the-top interest and attendance last year, we’ve expanded golfer registration, added more social time with a fun cocktail event for networking and upgraded our silent auction and prizes.

We’re thrilled by the number of participants already registered, representing a diverse group of participants from senior living organizations, architecture firms, financial brokers, real estate companies, construction groups, trades, vendors, suppliers, and many other partners. We also can’t say enough about the many partners who have already stepped up as a Signature Sponsor. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we unveil the list of these generous champion partners on our social media channels!

Click here for all the registration, sponsorship and event details, and join us at the Foxwood Golf Club on Sept 19, 2024 for an amazing day on the links!

Transforming lives at heart of MEDA’s work

We are sometimes asked, “Why support MEDA?” The answer is simple. Like us, they’re dedicated to making the world a better place. MEDA empowers women and girls in developing countries, tackling poverty through innovative business solutions. Watch this video to see how MEDA is transforming lives.

Our employee wellness efforts recognized by HEC

peopleCare’s efforts to build a sustained workplace wellness culture have been recognized as a promising practice by Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC). The Reimagining LTC series highlights innovative approaches to improving LTC staff working conditions, enhancing resident care and creating lasting solutions through direct engagement with staff, residents and care partners.

peopleCare has supported staff in recent years through mental health education in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association – Ontario, empowering Wellness Champions, and running morale-building initiatives like our popular Walk to Wellness. Regular employee surveys have also played a key role in guiding our actions. Watch our next issue for more details on the results from our 2024 Employee Engagement Survey!
