Update on COVID-19 immunization for staff

September 15, 2021

Since COVID-19 vaccines became available, peopleCare has strongly encouraged, supported and enabled staff to get immunized to protect themselves and those around them. We’re proud of how our team members have stepped up, and our high vaccination rates.

As Ontario faces a fourth COVID wave, effective Sept. 20, 2021, our immunization policy will require staff, students, volunteers and agency/third-party contractors to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1, 2021.

Staff who do not meet the new policy requirements will be placed on an unpaid leave, and students, volunteers and agency/third-party contractors who do not meet the new policy requirements will be unable to continue their placement or contract – until the requirements are met.

While this was not an easy decision, we believe it is the right thing to do. peopleCare remains committed to take action to protect residents, staff, families and partners – as highly transmissible variants pose significant risk to seniors, unvaccinated individuals and those with health concerns.

peopleCare will continue to provide our staff with the necessary supports to make getting their vaccine as easy as possible. These include maximizing opportunities for onsite vaccination clinics, assistance with appointment booking and flexibility in work schedule.

We will also continue to operate with all required public health measures in place, such as active screening, rapid testing and PPE, to prevent spread of infection and protect all who spend time in our Homes.
