Podcast highlights peopleCare, Trent aspirations to reimagine living and aging well
An innovative partnership between peopleCare Communities and Trent University is leading the way in transforming how we think about aging and care. And it’s the topic of a recent OLTCA Coming of Age podcast Rethinking how we Create Seniors’ Communities.
In the episode, peopleCare President Megan Allen-Lamb, and Trent University President and Vice-Chair Cathy Bruce discuss our two organizations’ shared aspirations to create a dynamic intergenerational long-term care (LTC) community, that also leads in research and innovation.
peopleCare’s future 224-bed LTC home at Trent will be the first ever built on a University campus in Canada. Along with enhancing care and services for seniors in the Peterborough community, the home will be enhanced by a teaching and research agreement that includes at-minimum 91 student placements, and will create opportunities for students to work or volunteer.
Ultimately, this visionary collaboration will bring students and seniors together in a shared space where learning, living, and care are interconnected. “It all goes back to the trust and the relationship and that north star we’ve moving towards together,” says Allen-Lamb. “We have this common vision. We’re aspiring to deliver a different experience. We’re reimagining how to live and age well through this beautiful campus setting.”
peopleCare’s vision is to change the world of senior living, by designing vibrant communities that support people to live and work with purpose and vitality. Allen-Lamb recalls feeling the art of the possible for this collaboration come alive the moment peopleCare visited the Trent campus. “I remember driving on to this beautiful campus with lush greenery, with trees, this beautiful river flowing through the campus and imagining our residents getting to experience all the beautiful amenities of a university campus. And I felt in that moment they had us at hello. You couldn’t ask for a better setting for our residents to be enriched and really grow and continue on a quest of lifelong learning.”
peopleCare’s LTC home will be fully part of Trent’s forward-thinking future vision for a broader University Integrated Senior’s Village planned in the same area of the campus.
