Delhi LTC Accredited with Commendation

June 22, 2022

peopleCare is delighted to share that Delhi Long-Term Care (LTC) is Accredited with Commendation under Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum program. This level of distinction is awarded to healthcare organizations that go above and beyond the requirements of this rigorous evaluation process.

“We are so proud of the Delhi LTC Home team for their commitment to delivering safe, high-quality resident-centred care,” says Jenn Killing, peopleCare’s Vice President, Quality, Research and Strategic Partnerships. “Earning this positive decision from Accreditation Canada truly reflects the high bar this Home sets for continuous improvement and working with partners to exceed the expectations of our residents and families.”

Delhi LTC became one of peopleCare’s family of managed homes in 2011, giving this small 60-bed, independent rural Home a foundation of operational excellence and a strategic focus on quality outcomes. The value of partnering with peopleCare was evident to surveyors during the Accreditation process, who noted many benefits to the team adopting peopleCare’s vision, mission and values, and having full access to our leadership, policies, procedures, ethics resources, innovations and more.

Debbie Cornell is Delhi LTC’s Executive Director. She says participating in Accreditation offered a welcome opportunity to focus on the unique ways we partner with others and innovate, to deliver meaningful, intergenerational resident-centred programs in a safe and happy Home.

“Our staff, residents, families and partners came together to showcase the care, trust, support, pride, laughter and community spirit that makes Delhi LTC such a special place,” says Cornell. “We appreciate Accreditation Canada for recognizing and acknowledging our efforts to make quality improvement and resident-centred care a priority.”

Comments from the onsite surveyors reflected the team’s high standards and commitment to creating a great place to live and work: “Delhi is occupied by a group of happy residents and long-serving staff who are proud of the work they do each day to provide high quality care. Residents and families are highly satisfied with the services and care they receive, describing their experience as `second to none.’”

To highlight Delhi’s excellence within Qmentum’s standards – such as governance, leadership, risk management, infection prevention and control and medication management – the team shared examples such as peopleCare’s award-winning Clinical Pharmacy Model, Ethics Partnership and Sensory-Rich small home environment. In our Report, peopleCare was also commended for our work on Recovering Strong to support staff post-pandemic.

Accreditation Canada is an independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards for quality and safety in health care and accredits health organizations in Canada and around the world. Their Qmentum program fosters quality, safety and accountability through evidence-based standards and a rigorous external peer review. The Delhi LTC team met an outstanding 98.7% of Qmentum’s required criteria.
