Construction underway on new Tavistock LTC
Multiple generations of family owned peopleCare Communities were thrilled to come together with residents, staff and special guests to celebrate the official start of construction for the new Tavistock Long-Term Care (LTC) Home recently. The new Home is the first phase of a planned campus of care and will open in 2024.
Brent Gingerich is the third-generation owner and peopleCare’s Chairman and CEO. He says that redeveloping the existing Home, which was built in the mid-1970s, has been an ongoing priority.
“As a family owned, mission-driven, senior living developer and operator, we are thrilled to be building a state-of-the art new LTC home in the community where peopleCare’s culture of caring and service first began,” says Gingerich. “We sincerely thank Minister Calandra, MPP Hardeman and the government for continuing to make the needs of Ontario’s aging seniors a top priority and enabling leading operators like peopleCare to increase senior living capacity where needed most.”
Highlights of the new Home include:
- 128 LTC beds to serve the needs of more residents.
- Bright and open reception area with a vibrant lounge space.
- Residents will enjoy engaging social and restorative activities in the large dining rooms, activity rooms and lounges that will be located in each of the 32-bed Resident Home Areas.
- Spacious 1 and 2 bed resident rooms.
- The entire building will be constructed around a central courtyard with beautifully landscaped gardens that will provide all residents with safe and enjoyable outdoor space.
- Other unique features include a children’s play area, family stay-over suite and a dedicated home area that offers special care and supports for residents living with dementia.
peopleCare’s vision is to change the world of senior living by being innovative and working in partnership with others. When the new peopleCare Tavistock LTC home opens, even more seniors will be able to remain in this community they love, living in a modern and beautiful home, surrounded by family, friends and neighbours.
peopleCare President Megan Allen-Lamb notes the new Home will be part of a care campus that will, in time, include a mix of housing options – such as retirement living and seniors apartments – plus care and service options that will wrap supports around seniors and help them live and age well, in the community they love, for generations to come.
“We look forward to continued partnership with Oxford County, East-Zorra Tavistock township and many others in the community, to deliver on our vision for a vibrant, integrated care campus that helps older adults live and age well, and more independently — receiving a range of housing, care, services and community-based health and social supports, all in one place,” says Allen-Lamb. “That is incredibly valued by today’s seniors and their families as their needs change over time.”
peopleCare is thrilled to have this opportunity to redevelop peopleCare Tavistock to a new and modern standard, while still retaining the values and the focus on people that have been the hallmarks of our organization for over 50 years.
MPP Hardeman, a long-standing leader in bringing more care to seniors in Oxford, has been a steadfast supporter of Tavistock LTC and its redevelopment. “This new and upgraded LTC home is an excellent development for Oxford and will build on peopleCare’s record of providing top-quality service to residents and their families in our community,” says MPP Hardeman.
With planned developments in nine beautiful communities in Ontario, peopleCare is focused on our mission to create welcoming communities that enhance the quality of life for everyone touched by our services. Building new Homes also gives our organization the chance to create jobs and hire more great people, and we are committed to ensuring our caring frontline teams feel engaged, valued and supported to provide exceptional care and experiences.
