Peterborough LTC Development

Woodland Drive Peterborough, ON

Kicking off construction in 2025, peopleCare Communities is excited to build and operate a new 224-bed not-for-profit long-term care (LTC) home on Trent University land, the first LTC home in Canada to be located on a University campus.

Raising the bar on peopleCare’s aspirations to create vibrant, intergenerational communities and Trent’s reputation as a globally recognized age-friendly university, this innovative LTC home will integrate care, research, education and connection in one inspiring location. Seniors, families, students and staff will benefit from access to Trent’s beautiful campus and amenities that promote lifelong learning, wellness and social connection.

In short, this trailblazing partnership between peopleCare and Trent will lead the way in transforming how people think about aging and care.

A cornerstone of the collaboration with Trent is educating nearly 100 nursing and kinesiology students in the home every year, with potential to expand to social work and other programs in future. Students will benefit from hands-on and simulated clinical experience, summer jobs and volunteer opportunities in the home. A key goal is to spark interest in geriatric care and help shape the next generation of healthcare leaders.

peopleCare and Trent will also leverage the research expertise in the Trent Centre for Aging & Society to collectively spearhead research into promising practices in aging, trialing and studying cutting-edge initiatives with the intent to spread and scale innovation across the LTC sector and broader health system.

Slated for completion in 2027, the home will be a major local employer, bringing over 200 new jobs to the community. We are proud to help showcase LTC as a rewarding and vital career path while building a skilled, compassionate workforce.
