peopleCare and partners celebrate milestone for Delhi LTC
peopleCare Communities welcomed residents, families, elected officials and community partners to an official ribbon-cutting celebration in June, recognizing a milestone years in the making for Delhi LTC and the broader Norfolk County community.
Built in 1972 by local businessman William Gheysen, Delhi LTC has been an important part of the community for more than 50 years. When Gheysen entrusted peopleCare with management of the home in 2011, peopleCare’s intention was to eventually redevelop and expand the home to better serve local seniors and their families.
“peopleCare has been honoured to support seniors and their families in Delhi for the past 15 years,” said Brent Gingerich, Chairman and CEO of peopleCare Communities. “The opening of our new Delhi Long-Term Care home marks an important milestone for the community and will help more seniors remain close to the people and places that matter most to them.”
For the past 15 years, peopleCare has worked alongside residents, families, team members and community partners while pursuing approvals and plans for redevelopment. In 2024, Delhi LTC officially became one of peopleCare’s family of owned homes, paving the way for the next chapter in the home’s history.
We thank the Government of Ontario, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, and our local municipal and community partners for their support in making this project possible. We are proud to work alongside them to help meet the evolving needs of older adults and their families in Norfolk County.
The celebration welcomed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP Bobbi Ann Brady, Norfolk County Interim Mayor Kim Huffman, residents, families, staff members and community partners who helped bring the redevelopment project to life.
“Bringing this new home to life has been a true team effort, reflecting what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to meeting the needs of seniors and their families,” said peopleCare President Megan Allen-Lamb. “We are grateful to the many residents, families, team members, community partners and government leaders who helped make this day possible. Seeing residents enjoying their beautiful new home, with their community around them is a wonderful reminder of why this work matters.”
Jeremy Zinger, Vice President, Long-Term Care Operations, previously served as Executive Director of Delhi LTC for several years in the older home. Having worked closely with residents, families and team members over the years, he has seen first-hand what the new home means to the community.
“Delhi has always been a special home with strong community support and a dedicated team,” said Zinger. “It is incredibly rewarding to see residents, families and staff enjoying this beautiful new space.”
The redeveloped home replaces the former 60-bed Delhi LTC and adds 68 new LTC beds, creating capacity for 128 residents. Designed around four resident home areas that create a more intimate and familiar living environment, the home features dedicated dining and activity spaces, lounges, landscaped outdoor courtyards, a chapel, bistro, barber salon, therapy rooms and family stay-over accommodations.
Constructing a new and larger home, to better serve the community, was peopleCare’s first priority. Over time, the organization will continue exploring opportunities for additional seniors housing, care and services on the site in collaboration with our valued community partners. The goal is to enable more older adults and their families to have their needs met through quality care and life-enriching experiences right here in the community they know and love.
Building new LTC homes in Ontario requires collaboration, and peopleCare extends its sincere thanks to the Government of Ontario, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Parliamentary Assistant Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP Bobbi Ann Brady, Norfolk County, the Delhi community, SRM Architects, VanDel Construction, CMLS, Canada Life, BDO, and the many partners whose contributions helped make this project possible.
