THE ROLE
As part of the Finance team, the Payroll Supervisor oversees accurate payroll processing, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and drives continuous process improvement. peopleCare seeks a strategic leader with a passion for operational excellence, team development, and stakeholder collaboration.
Reports to: Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and lead plans of action to support peopleCares strategic objectives, internal controls and efficient processes across the organization.
- Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a multi-location, multi-union enterprise, ensuring compliance with government regulations and relevant CBA’s.
- Communicates regularly with home leaders and other stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
- Lead and support payroll team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Co-lead change management initiatives related to payroll with the Payroll Analyst, promoting adoption of new processes and technologies.
- Support internal and external audits and audit payroll data, including earnings, deductions, and benefits, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Investigate and resolve payroll issues, discrepancies, and employee concerns effectively to support the team of payroll specialists.
- Optimize and maintain payroll software system (Dayforce) and payroll processes in conjunction with the Payroll Analyst for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
- Generate and analyze payroll and financial reports, providing insights and recommendations to management.
- Oversee year-end payroll activities and accurate administration of benefit deductions, pension contributions, and other entitlements.
Experience & Education Required:
- Post-secondary education in payroll, accounting, or related business program
- Successful completion of Canadian Payroll Association certification, a designation of PCP or PLP (formerly CPM) (preferred)
- Minimum 5 years leadership experience in a multi-location environment, including experience with hourly and salaried payroll
- Experience using Dayforce will be considered a major asset
- A strong understanding of collective agreements
