THE ROLE
This is a dynamic leadership opportunity for a highly adaptable nursing professional who enjoys making an impact across multiple care environments.
The Nursing Services Specialist facilitates the ongoing development of structures, systems and resources to support and advance professional nursing practice. Working with leaders and front-line staff across our long-term care homes, this position is responsible for the development, monitoring and evaluation of evolving standards of nursing practice within an interdisciplinary care model. This role also collaborates with leadership and professional staff to ensure the integration of nursing practice standards in program design, resource planning and allocation, and in the delivery of resident-centred care.
The Nursing Services Specialist will be based out of the Leadership Support Office and provides flexible, on-site nursing leadership support across the organization. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and regular travel between LTC homes is an essential component of the position

Reports To: VP of Quality, Research, & Strategic Partnerships
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide nursing leadership support within an interdisciplinary care model across multiple long-term care homes, as assigned
- Support compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements, and applicable directives
- Strengthen inspection readiness and support accreditation activities, including Accreditation Canada standards
- Lead and support clinical components of the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), ensuring practice-level improvements are embedded within care teams
- Deliver and support education, training, and professional practice development for nursing and care staff
- Provide mentorship and clinical education support related to documentation standards, clinical decision-making, and professional accountability
- Lead and support professional practice standards for Registered staff and Personal Support Workers, promoting safe, ethical, and evidence-based care aligned with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Coach and mentor nursing leaders and frontline staff, fostering role clarity, performance excellence, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance resident outcomes.
- Identify clinical risks, practice gaps, and system improvement opportunities in contributing to sustainable solutions at both the home and organizational level.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- 5 – 10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of Ontario long-term care legislation, inspection processes, and professional practice standards
- Demonstrated experience supporting professional practice, education, and nursing coaching for registered staff and PSWs
- Experience with quality improvement methodology and Accreditation Canada standards
- Ability to adapt quickly to new environments, lead through change, and build trust with teams
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills
- Master’s degree in nursing, health administration, or leadership considered an asset
- Membership with RNAO
